MURFREESBORO — After they were denied their day in court, opponents of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro cemetery Monday mixed words with reporters following them out of a courtroom for interviews.

Plaintiffs’ witness Lou Ann Zelenik questioned the intent of the reporters covering the ICM cemetery case after Chancellor Robert Corlew III decided to recuse himself from hearing the case.

“Who are you?” Zelenik asked WSMV reporter Larry Flowers, who has covered many other stories pertaining to other plaintiffs who sued the Rutherford County Regional Planning Commission for approving the congregation’s plans to build a new center on Veals Road May 24, 2010.

“I’m here to cover a story,” Flowers said.

Zelenik afterward said she was surprised to see so many reporters with cameras pursing interviews in the tight hallways of the Rutherford County Judicial Building.

“I didn’t expect the media,” Zelenik said during a phone interview. “There were people pushing. I couldn’t understand it. There was a person who is 70 years old. I was concerned. I said stop pushing.”

A former Republican congressional candidate who accused a former ICM board member of promoting terrorism through social media, Zelenik told reporters that she’s gotten death threats from people following Middle East media coverage of her statements and positions.

Zelenik also questioned the intent of Noor Tagouri, who identified herself as a University of Maryland senior journalism student and CBS radio reporter in Washington, D.C. Tagouri is a Muslim, and one man in the group with Zelenik questioned how she could be objective in reporting when she was wearing a headscarf.

“I’m a journalist,” Tagouri said. “It’s for the University of Maryland.”

Zelenik contends that Tagouri was aggressive in the way she put her camera in front of people.

“I asked for her name,” Zelenik said. “She refused to give me a card. She refused to give me her name. She was pushy. She was pushing around and hiding and sneaky and trying to come up from behind people.”

    Haha, well I agree 🙂

Wonder how many Muslims actually gave her death threats…

  • Jekyll

    I’ll give you that.

The islamaphobes did not learn their lesson from the 2012 election….they tried to use anti islam rhetoric to help joe the plumber alan west rabbi shumley joe walsh…and joel kaufman into congress….they all lost…..americans dont like groups that promote hate

  • Unckle_Ruckus

I’d like to see some proof of these so-called threats. Surely, federal agents have it on record as they’ve been investigating her claims, right?

  • Chode

If you believe she actually received death threats, then I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn…This people are professional racists, who are attempting to play the victim card. Velenik, a white southerner, actually compared her plight to being in the “back” of the bus. The absurdity of what comes out of her sewer mouth is nauseating.

Even though I despise her attitude toward Muslims and Islam, I cannot condone death threats toward her, whether she put herself in that kind of situation or not. I also understand the Muslims’ anger and frustration. But death threats are simply not acceptable, nor would be violence in another form. The Muslims of Murfreesboro are fighting this thing out in the legal and public ways that the laws of the land provide for. I am sure they will win this battle. It is just a matter of time.

God that’s despicable, how dare those freaks talk to her like that. If someone as bubbly and beautiful as her gets stared at like that then you know these people have lost their souls..

  • Peeper

So I guess entire press was inciting? lol. Snide remarks and hasty conclusions. That’s all I heard.

  • Nur Alia binti Ahmad

yes, she received death threats, but intentionally put her face in front of cameras in this incident.

  • rookie

Yes, it is inciting as long as they are not the ones recording.
And those old men and women out there are just pathetic.
Discussion with them is like talking to a concrete wall.

I don’t believe anyone should be the target of death threats; however, if Lou Ann Zelenik has received death threats, it’s because her actions have put her in that situation.

Lou Ann Zelenik is an anti-Muslim, anti-Islam bigot and hypocrite. Pure and simple. Those who surround her seem of the same inclination. She and her supporters admire Geert Wilders and his party. Her Facebook site has a lot of stupid comments on Islam and Muslims. I pray that she and her supporters miserably fail in their nefarious aims toward the Muslims in Murfreesboro and elsewhere.

  • The first photo, the bald guy leering at the sister in hijab, that is quite a scary face he made. You can see he absolutely hates her. Go look at the famous photo of Goebbels giving the death stare to a photographer once he found out the man was Jewish. It’s the same look of contempt.

I think they’re afraid of “MUSLAMIC CEMETERY” is because they think (and i use this term loosely) that muslims will rise from the graves to spread sharia law as MUSLAMIC ZOMBIES!!
